Sciatica

Problems Treated
    •  Piriformis Syndrome

Description and Treatment

Frequent problems that involve sciatica are noted from muscle spasms of the piriformis as it covers the sciatic nerve. When this problem is recognized with an ultrasound guided technique, the piriformis muscle can be anesthetized and cortisone injected into it to relieve muscle spasms that cause the sciatic pain. Frequently this is beneficial. The same treatment applies for another muscle called the psoas, where an ultrasound guided block of that muscle can easily be performed in the office.
